The Denim Series

The denim series came about from the fact that I had never thrown away my of my old worn out jeans, I would take them to my studio, stuff them into a bag, figuring that I would use them to paint in since I really am not comfortable in overalls. Well the collection starting growing and just sitting in a corner of my studio.

So there I am one day in the summer of 2000 with the need to go in a new direction. I was in my studio and had just stretched a new canvas with no idea at all what I was going to do. I remember distinctly feeling the edges to be sure it was stretched well, rubbing the canvas to get the feel of the texture, brushing off any dirt that might have gathered and still no ideas. I looked around the room and my eyes landed on the bag of old jeans and I was off. I grabbed a pair of jeans, cut them into leg lengths, measured them to see how they would lay on the canvas, gesso`d the canvas, laid the jean legs into the gesso, and started painting.

Six years and 21 paintings later I am done. Here are 12 out of the 21 paintings.
