The pallet knife series got started in 2006 by more than a feeling than anything else. I knew the Denim Series was coming to an end, I could just feel it. I did two paintings off denim onto large canvas' the first one I did with the exact same style as the denims, the second one I spread out a little more and for the final part of the painting I pulled out a pallet knife and went to work creating a rather large semi-circle. That was it, I was hooked, I fell in love with the pallet knife style of painting.
In all of the PK-series of paintings I am using acrylics, metallic acrylics, interference acrylics, iridescence acrylics, pearl mica chips and gold flake on canvas. What these paints do, I have found, is reflect light in the most unusual and incredible way. By using these materials on the canvas I can give the impression of moving light and color depending on the angle light hits the paintings. Most of the paintings done in 2006 were done this way.
In the newer paintings done in 2007, I am adding pumice, grout and mortar. These paintings are taking on a third dimension, that being of texture.
A few of the 2008 paintings have been added, they are taking a lighter approach still using the pallet knife style.
